Since the beginning of March, I have been contributing to The Raging Sew & Sew project produced by Dolly Sen.

Inspired by the legacy of Lorina Bulwer, the infamous needle worker who embroidered her rage and indignation onto samplers, after being placed in a the lunatic ward of a workhouse in Great Yarmouth from 1893 to 1912.

I have been producing a stitched sampler, for inclusion into a collaborative tapestry, and a creative writing piece for inclusion into an accompanying book.

Lorina Bulwer’s embroidery is a striking blend of poetry and fury—unfiltered, unapologetic, and bold. Her stitched words, absent of punctuation, weave together a raw narrative in a riot of colours.

It stands as testament to human resilience; even in the direst circumstances, people create, they nurture culture, and they use art as a powerful medium to tell their stories.

Much like the present moment, this project has become a space where I confront my rage — an unfiltered response to the capitalist, extractive, and neo-liberal forces that saturate our society.

Through this engagement, I am not just observing, but actively challenging the dominant narrative, seeking ways to reclaim expression, resistance and creativity in the midst of systematic constraints.
